Dr. Tapia is a bilingual Afro-Latina leadership consultant, facilitator, speaker, and doctoral researcher helping organizations build cultures rooted in belonging, psychological safety, and authentic leadership.
With over 20 years of experience across nonprofit, healthcare, education, and corporate sectors, she partners with leaders and organizations ready to move beyond performative inclusion and create meaningful, lasting change.
Holding a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership, Development & Change, Dr. Tapia’s work is grounded in both research and lived experience. Her doctoral research centered the voices of 145 Latina professionals in the first study of its kind exploring psychological safety within this community, shaping the foundation of her leadership approach today.
She is the founder of M. Tapia Consulting LLC, co-founder of the Latino Impact Institute and Latino AI Summit, and an adjunct professor at Lehman College. Her work has brought together hundreds of leaders nationwide to explore the future of leadership, belonging, and equitable access to emerging technologies, including AI.
At the center of her work is the V.O.I.C.E.S. Framework, a transformative model developed through her research that helps organizations understand how identity, belonging, and psychological safety shape leadership, culture, and performance.
As a first-generation college graduate, mother of three, and proud Dominican American, Dr. Tapia brings both strategic insight and human connection to every space she enters.
Today, she works with organizations, institutions, and communities across the country that are ready to build something real, cultures where people feel seen, valued, and empowered to lead fully.
What I Believe
The foundation. People do their best work when they feel safe to show up fully.
Not tolerance. Not inclusion on paper. Real, felt, embodied belonging.
Who you are is not separate from how you lead. It is your greatest strength
No code switching. No shrinking. Come as you are.
Doing what is right even when it is hard. Especially then.
Earned through consistency, honesty, and showing up — every time.
